What, precisely, is a 'directional toy'?
First, when I say 'toy', I mean dildos. So many dildos. Dildos, dildos, and more dildos! They come in all sizes, shapes, and colors. Some sparkle. Some shine. And some even glow. Stripes, glitter, knots, bumps, twists, curves, and more. You get the point.
In the world of Pegging (my favorite place to hang out), there is an important thing to remember about some of these toys. Dildos can be directional, meaning that they will have a different amount of prostate stimulation when turned one direction or another.
As a refresher, the prostate is located in the intrepid receiver's ass about 3 inches in and towards the front of them. So if they are laying face down, it would be in and down. If they are laying on their back, it would be in and up, towards the front of their body. Now let's look at how toys can have an intended direction.
What is a Directional Toy?
A few things can make a toy directional. Pronounced heads, curves, and bumps or ridges. Depending on how you turn the toy, that head, curve, or bump will give the receiver more prostate stimulation or less.
A plain-shaped dildo with no curve, no head, just a silicone rod, so to speak, is not directional. No matter how you turn it, the toy offers the same level of prostate stimulation. You can change the angle of the thrust, but the increase in sensation would not be inherent in the shape of the dildo. Rather it would be the angle of the Pegging.
Pronounced Head Directional Toys
The head of this toy will give more stimulation when directed towards the prostate. That little ridge that is part of the head will slide over the prostate. Many receivers get a lot of pleasure from that contact. The slight curve of this particular toy is also a factor. When you step out of the world of Pegging, these types of toys are also called G-Spot dildos. They are always medium firm (unless they are very large) so the leverage of the curve and head are effective.
Curved Toys
The more intense the curve, the more intense the stimulation will be. Especially combined with a firmer toy. Using a toy like this one in the wrong direction might make your receiver feel a bit like their insides are being rearranged. This is a great reason to make sure the toy is turned in the right direction!
With this toy, the head is larger than the shaft, there are two soft ridges after the head and it's curved. All contribute to more prostate stimulation, when the toy is turned in the right direction.
Bumps and Ridges
This dildo has all those delightful bumps that can thrill the prostate, but notice they are only on one side! So now you're getting the idea, right? The ridges of this very directional toy will provide all kinds of prostate stimulation, once again, if it is turned in the right direction.
Bookmark Your Dildo
Now you know the ups and downs of directional toys. Before you go, here's one more tip for you.
Sometimes during Pegging, the toy turns while in use. This happens for a variety of reasons. If the dildo is not held securely enough in the harness it can turn. Internal muscles can also play a part, if the receiver is particularly enthusiastic or clenching their sphincter. The angle of use can have an effect, as well. There is no guaranteed way to stop the dildo from turning. This is true whether you use a fabric harness with a sewn-in O-ring or a 2 strap harness with interchangeable O-rings.
If you have a harness with interchangeable O-rings that allows you to see the base of the toy while it is in use, you can use this trick. Put a mark at the top of the base of the toy with a permanent marker when it is in the correct position. That way you can look down periodically and see if the toy has turned. Because the mark is there, you also know exactly how to correct the toy position.
A Directional Toy is Not For Everyone!
As a reminder, not all receivers do well with directional toys that offer more intense prostate stimulation. Some receivers have very sensitive prostates and need softer dual density toys without pronounced heads, ridges or bumps. More prostate stimulation is not always the magic bullet that will get receivers to higher levels of pleasure. Finding your prostate sweet spot is when the magic happens. Happy Pegging!
