Dan Savage, sex advice columnist and podcaster, was a guest on the Colbert Report a couple of days ago. Dan was there mainly to talk about his project for LGBT youth - "It Gets Better". The recent rash of LGBT suicides prompted Dan to make a video with his husband, encouraging LGBT youth to hang in there, because it does get better. Since then, President Obama, Hilary Clinton, Hollywood stars, elected officials and many, many other people have recorded and posted messages on the website telling kids it gets better.
Watching these videos can bring me to tears pretty quickly. I am very heartened by so many people coming together and contributing messages of hope and encouragement for bullied LGBT teens...or bullied teens period. I'm a big fan of Dan's - I listen to his podcast regularly. Dan Savage was instrumental in my decision to embrace my Pegging kink...I owe him many thanks.
So back to the Colbert Report - imagine my surprise when Dan brought up the subject of Pegging! For those of you who don't know this - the term 'Pegging' was actually coined by Dan Savage with the help of his listeners/readers in June of 2001. He was looking for a word meaning "strap-on sex" that was specifically describing the heterosexual activity. He took suggestions and then held a vote. Pegging won by a significant margin. Now the word is in Wikipedia.
I think this may be the first time Pegging was mentioned on public television. If you watch the whole clip, Pegging gets brought up again at the end (appropriately...)!
I guess Colbert is not interested in trying it out... 🙁
