Slutwalk Toronto

So here is what started this entire uprising...(OOooo, an uprising, an uprising!)

On January 24th, 2011, a representative of the Toronto Police gave shocking insight into the Force’s view of sexual assault by stating: “women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimized”.

Holy wrong thing to say, Batman. That is so reprehensible on so many levels. But what ended up happening is that women (and some men, too!) got pissed and decided to come together to make a statement...to reclaim the word "slut" as a positive word instead of attacking women for their sexuality. "Being in charge of our sexual lives should not mean that we are opening ourselves to an expectation of violence, regardless if we participate in sex for pleasure or work." Very nice, including the sex workers. Well done. I particularly loved this one statement: "No one should equate enjoying sex with attracting sexual assault."

On April 3rd, Slutwalk Toronto is scheduled to take place. I wish them well and hope they are actually listened to.

In the way of the internet, solidarity has sprung up in other places...at the time I write this there are 7 other Slutwalks scheduled in the days to follow across Canada and in the USA as well! See if there is one in your area here.

I found out about the Toronto Slutwalk in an excellent article on Alternet; "Slut Shame: Why Do We Still Attack Women for Having Sex?" - definitely worth a read. Slowly but surely social attitudes will change and it will become more accepted for women to enjoy sex just as much as men. But I am so not holding my breath.

The bizarre thing is that men almost always want a women who loves sex, but social mores are powerful...and they may still find themselves judging that woman who they had hot sex with, forsaking her for a more temperate version. But I ask you, people - who's having more fun, here?!!

Goodness...take your rules about women and sex and stuff them. Perhaps I will even help you with the stuffing...(cause I know just where to stuff it) heh heh.

I, for one really enjoy sex. If the word "slut" means a woman who enjoys sex...count me in! And oh, by the way...I write porn, too.

Let's hear it for the sluts! Because of course those are the women who are into pegging. Yeah Baby.
